I know most people wonder why we would even consider adopting when we already have five kids.  All I can say is it is something we always knew we would do.  Its not because we think we are super parents thats for sure.  We met while on a college missions trip to Russian orphanages and the rest is history.  It was 17 years ago, but it literally feels like yesterday.  I will never forget walking down the long hallway in the Russian orphanage, it was silent.  The worker told us, the children heard the footsteps getting closer and they stopped playing because they thought their parents were coming back to get them.  I knew then that I would never be the same.  As for Matt, I have pictures somewhere of him playing duck, duck, goose and hackysack with the kids at several different orphanages...he said it was never a question of if, but of when.

Another question is why not here, in America?  Its true there are children with great needs right here in our country.  I can only say, God has put Haiti in our hearts.  A child is a child is a child.  It shouldn't matter what their zip code is.  When the earthquake happened in Haiti, I watched hours of news coverage.  The utter poverty as well as the focus on orphans effected me tremendously.  I saw Dixie Bickel on the Today show and watched as they flew 80 orphans into Miami on a humanitarian flight.  I felt instantly drawn to this country.  

People have said "I could never afford adoption, you must be rich."  Um, no.   It was a matter of making it a priority.  We saved, we worked extra jobs, we cut costs.  God has provided. 

Lastly, we can't really let peoples opinions determine what we decide to do.  We are super excited about the future. Our kids are learning that life exists outside of our town.  The world is a big place.  We can provide a home for a child who doesn't have one.

As you can see from Dieunifer’s candid photos this month, she is simply happy to be involved with anything that is going on around her.  She loves to go on walks in the neighborhood, pointing out anything she finds interesting and learning the words for whatever catches her interest.   One of the photos is of her sitting in the scale.  All of the kiddos get weighed once a week at the main house.  Dieunifer is always content to sit in the scale when it is her turn.   She is good at eating independently but sometimes the nannies will feed her as well.  She is a huge fan of running around, climbing from crib to crib, and playing with the girls her age in the nursery.   She loves to laugh and enjoy life.  It is not difficult to get her to smile and interact with anything happening.  She loves to be involved!  She really enjoys the egg carton toy that you sent for her.  She will spend a lot of time playing with this toy.  She enjoyed the photo album, dog, and book you sent for her this month as well.  You will find some photos of her receiving these gifts.  She held onto the dog the whole time and she loved looking at your faces in the album and checking out what was under the flaps in her new book.
